Pressure relief grease fittings are commonly used on gearbox housings and bearings, (such as king pins, universal joints, etc.), where excessive lubricant pressures are not desirable. These safety valves open at predetermined pressures and can be used with either oil or grease. Installation above fluid level is recommended.

Leakproof fittings are a special purpose fittings for use in those applications where a positive seal is essential.
